While this ship model is not a personal project, it has to be one of the finest scratch-built models in the world today. The attached photos in this post are of an almost 6 foot long cutaway model of the USS Bowfin SS-287) which is part of the Bowfin Submarine Museum display at Pearl Harbor. I finally had the opportunity to fight glare and poor museum lighting in order to get a complete set of photos of the model which I will be posting here. Unfortunately, I forgot to reset my digital camera for close-up shot on the name plate which has the information on the model builder. I will correct that oversight and post credit details later on.
This model is unbelievably detailed -- accurate down to the toilet seats in the heads and the numbers on the guages! Hope my felllow model enthusiasts enjoy these.

Nice one Don [and Greetings]. As a fellow modellor she looks great but also reminds me of my visit to her full size sister {Pampanito} moored in San Francisco.

Again great photos Don and I particulary like the fullsize with Arizona Memorial in the distance.

Absolutely world class Don. That must have been a massive challenge and I can visualise the complexities of the paint jobs in each compartment.
It takes an incredible amount of planning and forethought to achieve something like that.
Thanks for sharing it with us.:)

Thanks all for the posts. I was really amazed by the work on this model -- if you look in the first shot there is even a roll of toilet paper in the loo! And he l eft out No. 3 engine so you can see the full engine room details. Now that's "modeling"! As I said, I will get the details on the builder later on. I know he was a submariner and worked from ship's plans.
For Dave, a better shot of the Bowfin, Arizona Memorial and the USS Missouri.
I will be posting some photos of the musuem exhibits later -- have to re-size my mega-pixel photos first.

Thank you for that Don - a picture like that brings back and maintains memories of a great trip to your Island and in particular Pearl Harbour.
