Today is Australia Day down here at the bottom of the world.
I'd just like to say that although it might be hard to believe at times, we are on the same side.
We are America's 51st state with the Queen of England as our monarch.
We know who we are. We've got the flag to prove it. America's stars and the Union Jack.
Wish us well.
That colonial riff raff far to the south.

Members here might find it strange that we celebrate the day when a fleet arrived from England loaded down with lots of disadvantaged Englishmen.

Today is the day we Australians endlessly discuss our national identity.

I don't think for a moment that we have an American flavour. As I see things - and a recent national survey said the same thing - there is strong dislike and suspicion of America.

And Sailor - it's the top of the world. Just because some European drew the first world map ... ...

Not by me there isn't Herk. I love America. Us older guys understand that the only reason that we aren't slaves of the Japanese emperor, is because of the US Navy.
I admit they aren't perfect, but nor is any country.
However our monarchist system with the Queen as head of state works better than any other government in the world. We are nearly perfect.

One only has to see what Wall street did to the Sydney Stock exchange this week to see they are linked

Just in case you have forgotten where we are Herk, you living in Thailand and all and in case you want to come back, I took this pic of us near the South Pole by using a satellite with Google Earth.

You've missed my point Sailor. The south pole is on TOP of the world. It's just that Europeans like to have it on the bottom.

Haven't you ever seen our world from space?

I like being down here out of the way.
All that stuff that goes on in the northern hemisphere.
Biggest problem down here is Fiji.

Congratulations to all Australians on this day I hope you are having a great time!

I myself have an Uncle in Sydney, an uncle and a cousin in Taree plus a cousin in Perth so I expect they will be having a few amber nectars just to be sociable :-)
