A relation of mine, Ashford Toogood, was awarded with three or four medals. I have found a photo of him wearing them, and was wondering if anyone could identify them?

Photo attached.

Any help much appreciated.

Medals appear to be 1914-15 Star, War Medal 1914-20, Victory Medal and RN Long Service & Good Conduct Medal.

There is a very slim and I mean very slim chance that the first medal is the 1914 Star but the odds against this are stacked high. His service record would verify entitlement.

If he is the Ashford Toogood Offical Number 305686 born in Saint Helens Isle of Wight on 23 April 1885 then his service record can be obtained from The National Archive under catalogue reference ADM 188/498. See http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=6987254&queryType=1&resultcount=1

The cost to get a PDF version of his service record would be £3.50.

I have downloaded his service record previously, and it does show the dates of him receiving his medals, but no information on them.

Hi, At the bottom right it says Traced Medal 1921, This means that he received the Naval Long Service and Good conduct Medal at that date,
This is quite good as he seems to have been serving on the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert at the time and the medal would have been named to that ship.
This makes it a very nice group, if you have them.
Looking at the rest of his service, the medals are the 1914/15 Star, 1914/18 War Medal and Victory Medal.

Unfortunately I don't have the medals, nor do we have any idea where they went. I'm sure some distant family member from the past has them though.

Many thanks for letting me know what the medals are. I couldn't find any record online of him receiving these, so it is nice to know what they were given to him for.
