Hello,
I am hoping that someone maybe able to help me with some research please.
In an old book, i found belonging to my husband's grandfather that there were 3 names of relations serving in the first World War.

No 1644 E. Baker, ( bn. Scarborough, N. Yorks)
5th Yorkshire Regt.
British Ex Force.
G.P.C.?

No 1473 Pte R. Barker,
Head Quarters,

150th Infantry Bae?, C/o Capt Crocka?

British Ex Force

No 2681
Pte W.H. Thompson,
2nd Troop,
B. Squadron,
2.6.Y. D. 2nd Corps,
British Ex Force,
France.
I am sorry if there is any mistakes in the above, due to the book being old and written in pencil.
I am hoping that someone can tell me some more information on the men above if possible.
I do know that they were all Scarborough born.
Kind Regards,
Irene Cooper

Hello Irene,

Some info which may be of help...

Ernest Baker
Private 1644
Medal Index Card - British War Medal / Victory Medal / 1914-15 Star... there also seems to have been the award of the Military Medal, though I can find no other reference to this as yet.

First entered theatre of war: France 18th April 1915

Also awarded the SWB (Silver Wound Badge)

------------------------------

Robert Baker (not Barker)
Private 1473 & 240205
The Yorkshire Regiment
MIC - BWM / VM / 1914-15 Star

First entered theatre of war: France 18th April 1915 (same as Ernest)

Also awarded SWB

------------------------------

From the above, it appears that these men were wounded or discharged due to sickness (hence the SWBs).

I note that you have sought assistance with these men on other sites - have you as yet received any further info which may be of help?

Kind regards,

Fleegle

Hello Irene
The first two men belonged the 5th Battalion of The Yorkshire Regt.(The Green Howards) in 150 Brigade of the 50th Infantry Division Landed in France 17.5.15.Fought continuously until taken out of battle in July1918.
All 50th Div.Battalions had been savagely mauled from Mar.to June 1918-

The third man was a Yorkshire Dragoon in 2nd Cavalry Corps, landed France much the same time as the Infantrymen.Y D. Broken up in March 1918 and became a Cyclist Battalion until end of war.

Data taken from British Regiments 1914-18 by Brigadier E.A. James OBE TD
