My very best friend Crossed the Bar last month after a short but painfull battle with cancer leaving a wife 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren.
He served 22 years in the RN 1961 to 1983 - his last seagoing draft was Chief of the flight or SMR (Senior Maintenance Rate) of HMS Active 1979 to1981
I gave a short eulogy at his funeral and as part of it made up this short peom
From discomfort and illness John is now free
His final draft's to a much better place to be
Where he suffers no more nor is he in pain
And it's there that, in time, we'll see him again
