Gents,
Was fortunate enough a couple of days ago to attend the launch (aboard HMAS Sydney @ Garden Island Naval Base, Sydney) of a new book about HMAS Perth and her gallant crew during WWII.
Entitled ‘Cruiser’ (by Mike Carlton - at almost 700 pages), it appears very well researched and was supported by both the RAN and HMAS Perth Association during it’s writing; it promises to be a very interesting and informative read.
Anyway, below is a photo from the event showing four of Perth’s crew, two of whom were onboard at time of her sinking near Sunda Strait – and ended up POW’s - and two that had been fortunate enough to disembark in Australia, after Perth returned from the Med, prior to her leaving for Indonesia in 1942.
The photo shows the four vets, author Mike Carlton and, I believe, the Captain of HMAS Sydney.
