I am seeking information about the Italian naval ships that served alongside the Allies after the armistice. An assortment of cruisers, destroyers and submarines were used for patrol, escort, transport and training duties. The British Royal Navy put liaison teams aboard these ships so that the RN could communicate effectively with these vessels.
I have not been able to find much information in English about these RN liaison teams, the sole exception being a web page giving a report by the RN liaison officer aboard the battleship Vittorio Veneto shortly after the ship arrived in a British port. Can anyone knowledgeable about the Regia Marina direct me to a source(s) in any language that gives information about some of the following:
1. which Italian ships had RN liaison teams aboard
2. any description from either the British or Italian perspective on how this assignment worked out
3. when RN liaison teams were finally withdrawn (presumably this occurred when the RN relinquished operational control over the Italian navy)
While I do not read Italian, I have friends who are fluent and can translate for me. Thanks in advance for any assistance. If you prefer, you can reach me by private message.
