I've always been impressed with the very high standard of models members have shown in this part of the forum. My own interest is in making card models and I have constructed buildings, vehicles, tanks, ships and other items in this medium.

Many years ago I bought up some micromodels and built one of HMS Amethyst of the Yangstze incident. I couldn't get the davits right so left them off (and the boats) but otherwise the model is complete. It is reasonably accurate but clearly much of the detail is missing.

I know they made some sailing ships and believe they also made other warships but I have never seen any of the later. Just wondered if any other members had ever come across any of the warships as I would be interested to know how well they make up.

By the way the total waterline length of the model is 117 mm so the picture when viewed is over twice the actual size. The gun barrels are made from the thinnest bristles on an old yard broom.

Cant help with micro models, but its good to hear of some one else into card modelling. Currently building Paper Shipwrights HMVS Cerburus and SMS Rhein/Mosel with Monitor M15 standing by. Like youI use bristles for small gunbarrels, and am trying dried grass stems for masts!

For those who might want to use some rigging for micromodels, I've found that fake wig hair (straight, black or blonde) actually works well in small scale. You pretty much have to attach one end, let it dry, then use forceps to gently pull the line "tight" and glue other end, clip off excess. I've used it at 1/700 scale and it looks fairly decent. My 1/350 battleship Missouri uses it and it's very realistic looking.
