Greetings fromTynemouth,
I am getting very frustrated with this computer lark as I am still learning and I have a couple of questions to ask so I hope I'm on the right thread.
1 How can I reply to someone else post without starting a new one off. I read it all the time, someones post appears and someone else has replied on the end.I think I might have done it once by mistake but I cant do it now.

2 At the end of each post is the word Quote and I have noticed that they appear often; one that springs to mind is QPR DAVE who has non illigitimus carborundum at the end of each post. Does he type this in every time or does it come up automatically. I have a good one in mind which would appeal to the older members but I dont know how to do it. If I could manage this then the next step would be an Avatar, I've seen some instructions on that somewhere.

Hi Alan,

Fear ye not, we are here to help you.

First of all, I would recommend you read through the FAQ section as it my answer some of your queries. Click on this link to take you there, or access it from the home page.

http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_vb_read_and_post

I am not quite sure what you mean by your first question? There are fundamentally two methods of replying to someone's post. If you use the POST REPLY option, you can just submit a post that will add itself to the chain in the thread. If you are responding to a specific post, you can use the QUOTE option which will start your post off with the content of the post you are responding to, and it will appear in a box shade blue when you submit your post. There are other ways of quoting, but I will leave that for now. Not sure this answers your query?

So far as qprdave's "non illigitimus carborundum" is concerned, this is straightforward. Go to your USER CP, accessed from the top horizontal toolbar, far left. Once in here select EDIT SIGNATURE. This will then allow you to add you own "illigitimus" and/or a picture (like my Dreadnought below). This will then come up automatically with each of your posts.

Adding an avatar is also accessed from your USER CP and again, following the instructions is relatively straightforward.

If after reading the FAQ's, and the information here, you still have difficulties, or are unsure about any aspects of the Forum, please do not hesitate to ask. You can send me, or any of the other Moderators, a personal message (PM) if you wish.

Thanks Clive Ive now read the FAQ and I'm possibly a little wiser, will keep trying but I cannot reply to you using the quote procedure. Hopefully I've done the signature bit correctly so here goes,

Well obviously I haven't got the signature thingy right. I followed your instructions brought up the edit signature screen typed in my few words and clicked on submit but nothing happened also I have tried to reply to a private message from Bee but there is no way I can find out if she has received it. What am I doing wrong?

Ok

Let me have a go

1) click on "User CP"
2) click on "Edit Signature"
A text window will come up. Just like the one that you post a normal message to the forum
3) Adjust the font, colour, size to how you want it.
4) click on "Save Signature"

The next time that you post it should be at the bottom of your post.

Good Luck
Dave

Alan,

Just step by step then ...

Go into USER CP - think you have achieved that.
Select EDIT SIGNATURE.
In the big white box titled 'Your Signature', type your words.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on PREVIEW SIGNATURE.
Scroll back up and check it appears in the PREVIEW BOX
Scroll back down to the bottom and click on SAVE SIGNATURE

Should work. Let's sort this, then we will go through Private Messaging.

Let me know ....

Well done Alan ... knew we would get there ...

For private messages:

Above the title bar, on the right hand side, under where it says Welcome Fuzzbox you should see Private Meassges .

Click on this.
In the navigation panel on the left, under the section PRIVATE MESSAGES, click on 'Send New Message'.
Type in the username in the RECIPIENTS box. There is a premptive dropdown box that will probably appear after you have typed the first two or three letters. You can click on the name you want.
Add a title for the message in the TITLE box.
Type your message in the MESSAGE box.
Go down the page and preview your message if you want, or just click on SUBMIT MESSAGE.

I would recommend setting up the ADDITIONAL OPTIONS by ticking the boxes SAVE MESSAGE IN MY SENT FOLDER and SHOW YOUR SIGNATURE.

When you receive a message, you will able to reply to the message directly. See ho you get one ... I can elaborate on that later.
