The Polish Navy had a large river-flotilla before and during WW2 not only sea-going ships ! Polish Navy includes a large flotilla of river-monitors and other smaller ships .

They are removable tanks fitted when the monitors were expected to operate in very shallow waters. The monitors had draught of 0,8 m, while with those tanks the draught was 0,6 m.

What are that things both sides of monitor Warshaw ?Those are floats which were due to decrease the draught.

BTW. It was WARSZAWA not Warhsaw!

Hope it helps!

Interesting to note the use of side-wheel paddles for propulsion on some of the Polish river vessels. Good for shallow water operation.

The extra decking on some of the vessels might be working-decks for transfer of men and material to smaller vessels.

What engines did the Polish river fleet use?

I do not read the Polish language. Are there any documents of operations on the rivers in English? My ancestors used the Mississippi, Cumberland, Tennessee and Red Rivers here for operations during the U.S. Civil War. What waters were important for Poland?

Most interesting, Thank You.

I'm a retired U.S. Navy minesweep sailor and I am begining to build a model of the T1 river minesweeper. I appreciate the information provided in this forum. Are there pictures of T! available? I have searched the internet but have been unable to find any. Also, I would be interested in knowing how the river minesweepers rigged their sweeps. I see two J-bar davits in the illustration, which would be used to rig the equipment outboard, and 4 cylindrical objects that might be sweep floats or paravanes for the sweep. But I do not see a winch or drum for a sweep wire. I'd appreciate any info that the group could provide.

It's an interesting side note here that they built this river monitors with a low profile form as did the early monitors of the US Civil War types. Amazing how the design that was proven many years before has survived the years.
