Evenin' chaps
I have a card model kit of Monitor M15. I am a liitle confused as to the anchor cable detail. There is only one capstan for two anchors. The port anchor cable emerges from the starboard hawse pipe, goes round the capstan and out to the anchor- And vice versi! Which would mean cables crossing. Any ideas as to what the real arrangement was?

Keith,

I know this may be a bit late, but I've only recently joined the site. We have a guy in our club who has built the M15 so I will ask him for details of his build.

The actual vessel is only 8 miles down the road from me so it's not beyond the wit of man for me to get down there and get an image of the actual foc'sle if all else fails.

By the way, I think that your 'signature' is absolutely brilliant! What's the origin? Some 'foot and mouth' incident on the bridge?

I have just remembered that it is M33 that is in Portsmouth dockyard, not the monitor M15 as I originally thought!:o

Twas a genuine order on the old Ton class mine hunters. To achieve steerage way at speeds of under 8 kts, props. were faired into the rudders, driven by a pair of Foden/Thorneycroft bus engines in the tiller flat. The order 'Stop both engines, full ahead both rudders' caused a few double takes from bridge visitors unused to 'hunters, including an Admiral who got a bit shirty until his flag o. explained it all.
Sorry for the delay, been off the tinternet for a while

Oh, Ive now managed to sort out M15 anchor cables- the kit design is correct!

Keith,

many thanks for the fascinating explanation. The order really does appear a contradiction in terms and gives the impression of a severe case of foot and mouth on the bridge.

Once explained, it does make sense.

Glad to hear that you have sorted the spaghetti out on the M15 cabledeck.

Sandy.

Hello John,
This should help if you are interested in building a 1/48 scale model, just came across it after I found the two pics.

Hi John,
Only joined a few days ago, but being a model boater myself, I thought I would add my tuppence worth. Model Boats magazine did a 4 part article on the M15 about 2 years ago, I believe I still have the mgazines at home somewhere, and if you are still interested, i could scan the articles and e-mail them to you. loads of good pictures and construction tips and details.

It has been a while since you wrote this thread, but the e-mail address of Eileen King is not responding anymore, any ideas how to get these drawings ??

John.

Found the website of Model Boat Plans service h**p://www.modelboats.co.uk/ go to shop and then to military and the drawings can be found of the M-15.

Hello Richie,
I have been checking my plans recently and I have found Sheets 1 & 2 of the M-15 that I scanned at 300dpi from the original article in "Model Boats" However I am missing sheet three and the associated write up.
Did you ever find your copies of the magazine?

Cheers Gary

Hi Gary,
I don't have any of the plans for the M15, but I do have the 4 parts of the write up I can send you if you PM me. I scanned them in from the Sept 2006 to Dec 2006 Model Boats Magazine 2 nights ago, as I also had a request for them from JohnMGD.
