I recently saved this from being thrown away and am wondering if anyone can help me with the following

Any idea who the two Officers are, I believe the one on the left is a Royal Navy reserve Lieutenant? And the one on the right a regular Royal Navy Lieutenant.

Any ideas on the age?

Any ideas on the ship, from the hat I can see HMS then possible two words?

Thanks for your replys.

I have converted your pictures to our preferred thumbnail method of uploading as we do not accept pictures from image hosting sites - purely because if the sender ever removed them from the hosting site they would also go from our forum leaving us with just little red crosses!

It is easy to upload any future pictures here using thumbnails but it will mean you would need to have them stored on your computer first.
All you need do is to click onto the paperclip shaped icon in the box you type your message and it will take you to where you store your pictures.

Many thanks.

I believe the vessel to be HMS Empress of India a first class battleship of the Royal Sovereign Class completed 1893.

The objects behind the group being the 13.5" BL guns.

It appears as they are both wearing sword belts that this is a handover between Officers of the Deck.

They appear to be on the quaterdeck.

I have cleaned up your image slightly and the second image is from Maritime Quest showing the stern of EoI for comparison.

As to the names of the officers the crew list for the ship for the date 9th March 1899 may be of use. ( the date is inscribed bottom right of the photo)

Just for interest notice the seaman is barefoot.

Hope this helps.
