I`ve started to build the White Ensign 350th kit of a Tribal Class destroyer. With help from the Ashanti thread in the "Naval history"RN I have been able to sort out the complex camouflage pattern ,and have now finished the painting on the hull.
I will give regular updates on my progess.
Cheers, Phil

Hi Tim,
I wish I knew about that when I was building my model of Somali last year.:)

Sorry about that Alan, he was very proud of it, it needs some very small repairs now, slight crack in the "plating" on after funnel but it is very fine, especially so since it is possible to relate sections of the ship to real incidents in her life. I just offeres to Phil to post some pics to him but here are a couple of old ones, i have a better camera now.

Hello again Tim,
Many thks for the pics; funnily enough it was the deck colour scheme that I had in mind when I posted the last email. It appears very similiar to mine which was pure guess work based on what scampy details that I could find regarding the decks. For your info Tim I posted some pics of the finished item on the thread 'Models of ships' posts no 59 and 67.
To Phil, your model looks very promising and I am really impressed with the diarama and the ships wash looks stunning. Look forward to seeing the finished item.

Dear Phil, don't forget to add this little chap, the ju-ju, presented in 1939 when she visited the Gold Coast and protected the ship throughout the war, he is on the front of the searchlight platform.
Model looks splendid.

Rest assured ,Tim, Ju-Ju will be in the correct place on the model. The Battlecruiser "New Zealand" was presented with a Moari "War-skirt",shortly before WW1,on the understanding that the Captain wore it ,when the ship went into action. It seemed to work ,she never received a scratch during the Great War !Maybe Ju-Ju worked for the Ashanti,as she was one of only four survivors of the RN Tribals.
thanks,Phil

An exceptionally good looking model, Phil. The ship herself is obviously going to be a great looking piece of work, but I have to also say I am most impressed with the very realistic looking bow wave at the proper angle and all. That is very hard to do well, as I found in doing the little 1/700 Baltimore that Gone Asiatic talked me into trying (pictures in this thread).
Can't wait to see this finished product! Good luck with the details, obviously the ju-ju is with you.

The Ashanti is now finished,it went together with very few problems, and although a very expensive kit,it`s the only 350th RN Tribal available. However ,the Russian firm of ICM have annouced they will be producing one in the future, let`s hope so,then I can do others in the class.

I second that, it is very good. I would also advise that you make a perspex dust cover to protect it - it will be worth it! ;)
I wonder if this is the same White Ensign Models that I purchased my 1:350 photo brass etching kits for various ocean liner models that I built ?
Kindest regards
