View Full Version : SMS Von der Tann
Hi,
I have been enjoying this forum for some time. I find the photos of the British Battle Cruisers especially interesting. I spend allot of my free time making 3D models of German warships from WW1. As there is not allot to see in the way of 3D warships on this site at the moment perhaps this model may be of interest. This is the SMS Von der Tann as she looked when first entering service in 1911. The model is made with the help of original plans and photos which were kindly given to me by enthusiasts for the purpose of making the model.
I hope you enjoy it!
Scupper, Marvellous; 'lucky' VON DER TANN always been a favourite battle-cruiser with me,well done indeed.

These 3d models are amazing! This is excellent work. How long does it take to do one of these if you don't mind my asking?
berry / MelQuick / scjon, ... thanks allot for you kind words, I am pleased you like the model. Yes you do need patience, the ships take me about a year to finish.

Excellent work Scupper. The detail is incredible, and I think the shadowing really brings a fine sense of added realism.
Outstanding - Thank you :)

I am amazed. What quality workmanship. My ship are way more simplier (because I animate them). You are truely the master. What's the poly count?
Dreadnaught / GaryH / mike3121 ... thanks allot! Yes the shadows do bring a scene alive. The Von der Tann model is about 1,8 million polygons. It would be interesting to see you animations mike3121
Cheers scupper
Two more renders, this time orthographic views. I didn't make the underwater torpedo tubes on this model.
Best regards to all

Scupper, what kind of software are you using, i use autocad and 3DS Max and the most i could do (mainly due to lack of skill) was a poor attempt at a submarine, but if you want a dalek or a tardis i can show you that lol.
honestly you should be designing computer games with that level of skill, with that level of detail, games would be more realistic than ever.
