As a Leander class fan, I'm looking forward to this book coming out in August!

Thanks for the "heads up" on this book. Order will shortly be placed by she who has asked me what I would like for my birthday. I have spoken with survivors of both HMS Encounter and HMS Exeter who spoke well of the exploits of HMAS Perth after witnessing her sterling effort in the first battle of the Java Sea.
Here is a link to more info about the book from the publisher:

There was a poll on this Forum last year for (something like) the best fighting ship in one's opinion. The Perth got my vote (perhaps the only Pom to do so!)

It's certainly one I have been meaning to buy for sometime now. May have to reconsider that given the apparent breadth of the forthcoming Cruiser (news of launch here - http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7704)

I have just bought a copy of
"Cruiser The Life and Loss of HMAS Perth and Her Crew."
by Mike Carlton

"It is a sad injustice that of 97 Australian recipients of the Victoria Cross not one has been a member of the Royal Australian Navy, despite there being no shortage of naval valour. Australia celebrates defeat in war as much as victory-think ANZAC- but the story of the Perth has been lost in time. The loss of Perth was one of our nation’s greatest naval defeats, yet it’s an Australian story we should all know and be proud of." Mike Carlton.

I have to agree with that.

I was fortunate enough to be consulted by the author while he was writing this book regarding clearing up certain points and supplying photographs. I also was giving the final draught of the book to read for any corrections required. (There were hardly any).

It is an excellent book, and a valuable contribution to anyone interested in the PERTH. Well worth buying.

I also contributed photos for Mike Carlton's new book "Cruiser' and recently attended his book launch on HMAS Sydney. I am halfway through the book. It is a very good read and includes more personal accounts than Ian's book.

I strongly recommend both books.

Cheers
Bruce
