Here's a question that came up when we were processing our images from the Trafalgar 200 Fleet Review, but we haven't yet had an answer to. All our programs and official literature from the event indicate that D63 Mumbai was at the event. From the photo below, it looks like the ship is numbered D62, which according to our sources would make it D62 Mysore. (I think I took a closer look at a larger version of the image at the time to confirm the number as 62). So was it D63 Mumbai or D62 Mysore at the review or was renumbering made

Oh, and the ship in the foreground is the Japanese destroyer Murasame.

The Rajput class destroyers are a modified version of the Soviet Kashin Class.

That is a strange co-incidence John and Kc as I have this fine photo of D62 which is also captioned Mumbai. I also include another shot of F44 Tabar...

A wiki article shows this picture as Mumbai D62 in Freemantle in 2001. It also says Delhi was D61 and Mysore was D60. Several other sites show the same numbers for these ships.

However, one site shows Delhi as 61, Mysore 62 and Mumbai as D63.

So...3 ships but 4 different numbers. It needs more investigation I think

INS MYSORE (ex NIGERIA) here in Trinco in 1958/9 just before the combined Naval Exercise in the Indian Ocean where she was in collision with the destroyer HOGUE, MYSORE suffered hardly any damage from the collision but the poor old HOGUE suffered fatal damage to her bows and never sailed again and was scrapped out in the Far East in 62.

It is an earlier Mysore than the one that has been discussed but thanks for the picture.

Sorry guys

The only thing I can come up with is that Mumbai was originally to be called Bombay. This may explain why there are 4 numbers and only 3 ships but doesn't really answer kc's original question.

If I had to stick my neck out, I would say that the ship is Mumbai with the pennant no D62.

I think the same John. Mumbai is just the Indian name for Bombay...
