Hello my name is Christine.
My father in law was a crew member on board the Awatea which was sunk on the 11/11/42. Can anyone help with information about the Awatea at this time. The ship was a New Zealand Union Steam Ship Company vessel, but was requisitioned for use in the second World War by Britain and sunk while still under the control of the British Ministry of War Transport. Any information would be most welcome. Also where I can go to check for Service Medals for New Zealand Merchant Seamen. Thanks Christine

Yes I had seen these pages on google.
I am after more specific information namely: medal entitlements for NZ merchant seaman and crew lists for the awatea. Hitting my head against a brick wall I am afraid, but someone may be able to help me. At the moment am going through the medals section of defence at Upper Hutt and Maritime NZ to see if they can help me. Thanks again.

Hi Mary,

i am an algerian diver, my name his mehdi and i dont speak very well english but i try to communicate with u.
we have realisate four or five dive on HMS Narkunda ant we are doing a presentation about this wreck and we hope dive the Awatea in sepetember if the gps coordonates is really good... if we trouver the wreck i promise u a lot of pictures submarines..
in french :je ne connais pas l histoire de ce navire car je n ai pas encore fait de recherches a son sujet.. j espere pouvoir vous aider dans votre quete.
