I'm passing on a few photos of life on board PETER VELIKLEY which has just arrived in VLADIVOSTOK and a few more of the anti pirate operations off Somalia.

It is interesting because not so long ago one would have been shot for publishing photos of the below deck layout of these ships.

I call on our russian friends to enlighten us on many details and correct any errors we commonly tend to make........

A second lot to keep you all out off suspenders.......

Uniform detail, do the ships names no longer figure on the cap bands, as this "matelot" taken at TARTOUS in Syria has his marked "Northern fleet" ?

A few more photos of life on board:cool:
1) I don't know what this is but it seems to be popular
2) Below deck
3) Just over the SA N 9 launchers on the aft deck
4) Uniform detail : The "jap caps" tropical headgear. Blue : OLD model. Grey : NEW model
5) Sunset on one of the heavy machine gun posts.
6) "Poor" Somali pirates who've bitten off more than they can chew this time

Hi Cavalry Man.If these photographs are post 1991.I am surprised to see that in post #3 photo #2,they still use the old soviet system of Identification on overalls/working clothes. This used to designate.Compartment worked in and ID number. That way it could be recognised instantly if someone was in a compartment number they should not be in. That is a forward torpedo man in a nuclear area on subs.
Regards Steve.

Apparently the colour ones are very recent, less than a few weeks, they show PV on its' latest cruise. As to the black and whites, I'm not too sure. I did ask our russian members to verify the details etc.

Best wishes, Jim:)

I find it fascinating to see these ships and their men up close and personal after all those years "back in the day" when we kept taut watch on the radar screens and weapons consoles when "the Rooskies" were about.

I have a photo of the Admiral Shaposhnikov (spelling?) entering Pearl Harbor that I pop up once in a while just to remind me how times have changed!

Actually, it is a very good feeling that we are no longer at sword's point even if we haven't become the best of drinking buddies yet. We actually could have done that years ago, and between us ruled the world by default. Boy, would that have been a surprise for the third world!! When they crapped in their boots, who would they run to for "protection" from the evil imperialist/communists, whatever....haw!

Just to keep our moderators happy (they zapped the last load of photos), go on to MILITARY PHOTOS. net, they run a specific Russian photo site (try page 2216 to start with).

If in future years we wish that details contemporary history be recorded I firmly believe that what happens today is as important as what happened last century.....

Seeing that you would rather make pointless jibes about Forum Moderators instead of replying to a Private Message you were sent, I would like to point out that you were merely asked to cut down on the number of pictures of Russian Warships you were taking from other sites and instead provide a link to them.

It has always been our policy to ask that members post their own photos of warships, or warship photos which are out of copyright.

While we have never prevented anyone from uploading one or two pictures taken from other sites to do so on a regular or even daily basis is a different matter altogether.

it is true that much has changed in Russia however i read to day that a Russian choir that was due to appear at an English festival this weekend was unable to attend because two of its members had been in the Russian military and they were not allowed to leave the country

I could not help but admire all the 'knitting' at the end of that gun-line :):)

It is also not the safest of places to stand... If that line falls into the sea and gets snagged around a prop then matey boy will very quickly be head butting the A bracket :)
