Some nice shots of 2 of them. As typical, appear to be armed to the teeth with redundent weapons. On paper sure would seem to pack a PUNCH!...........DFO :D
OOPS...obviously too many HAPPY PILLS again; what I really meant to label this was Sovremennyy and Udaloy, Udaloy II class DDGs...........hard to find good help!!

Hi Dennis. They certainly like their ships to pack "Punch per Rouble" don't they. These ships give me the impression of being top heavy.I wonder what kind of sea boats they are.I would hazzard a guess that they "roll on Wet Grass"!
Regards Steve.
Nice pics:D However, I think Admiral Chabanenko is not fit at all for modern warfare: oversized main weapon (ss-n-22 sunburn, why not the much more practical Harpoonski?); too many radar devices (Top Plate, Strut Curve and Band Stand-Kite Screech-Cross Sword almost fused together!); no medium range AAW; and no air-conditioning in crew quarters (portholes are quite an unusual feature in 1990s warships).

Obviously those Russians aren't wussies like we are...portholes work fine, no energy drain!! Besides...who needs A/C in Murmansk??!
They always have LOADED their ships with BIG weapons; otoh....better than a 57mm popgun like the po$ LC$! DFO

Uh:D, you forget that Admiral Chabanenko cruised in the Caribbean sea a couple of years ago;)
Yep, they always loaded the hulls with BIG weapons and sensors, but the reasons were:
1) technological obsolescence (back to back radars e.g. Top Sail+Big Net, Mickey Mouse-shaped antennas like the Head Nets...., missiles like the Styx).
2) USA aircraft carriers as main targets
In the early 90s Harpoonski became operational, and a full scale naval war between Superpowers was a nightmare of the past... that is to say: no need for Moskit anymore. Oh, by the way: do you really need a giant rocket such as ss-n-9 to destroy an enemy patrol boat?:) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_off_Abkhazia

Another view of the sole Udaloy II, transiting Panama Canal. First Russian warship to do so, IIRC, since WW2. DFO ;)
