One of my first memories of the then Soviet Navy, was a photo of the Moskova Helicopter carrier of the seventies.
Do any of you have any old tales of this ship ?
The first photo shows the MI 14, naval version of the MI 8 transport helicopter

She was always steaming up and down the English channel, from the Northern Fleet to the Black Fleet.Spent many a long while shadowing her when in Submarines. The sad thing is,I think she gave our Navy the Idea to covert Blake and Tiger and ruin two perfectly beautiful ships! I attach, courtesy of DFO,what may be the successor.

A design study(1958?)-earlier-for them. Also a pic of a forlorn Moskva (Sevastopol?) awaiting the beach at Alang where, IIRC, she was cut up-final pic..........DFO ;)
I built my first model of her from several aerial recon photos of her first showing in the Med. When more info and pics came out; I was off by 6' in loa but had over built the height of her superstructure...so scrapped her and redid the model from scratch. Still have that one!

Many thanks to all
Designer, I built a model too, but it was an AIRFIX one in 1984 I think, very poor detail, but better than nothing......:)

A final view of this proud ship at ALANG waiting for the blowtorch.......:(
Very interesting concept Steve! Is this model purely fictional or is it of the many stillborn Soviet projects?
Brgds.

Hi rd77.I think this is a model of yet another stillborn plan, that ran out of cash on the collapse of the Soviet Union. It looked entirely feasible, but they seem to be going for Multi-Task aircraft carrier type ships now.(If they can find the cash!!!:D)
