Hi, I'd like to find out more about a small wooden pot that I have seen and wonder if anyone knows

On this small wooden pot is an inscription on a metal 'plaque' which says
'From the teak of HMS Queen Elizabeth Dardanelles 1915
Earl Beattys flagship grand fleet 1917

Is there a story behind this pot?

Hi Trisha.Wood, usually Teak from well known ships Quaterdecks were usually made into either small items or even Garden Benches as a form of keep sake.Generally sold to the public. When yours should mention two battles is unknown.Someone else might be able to help more.Regards Steve.:)

I too have a small barrel made from the teak of HMS Iron Duke, or so it says on the plaque.

Mine came from HMS WARSPITE-my father gave it to me as a keepsake-my son has it now.

Mine came from HMS Ganges [the ship not the stone frigate] - someone saw it at a carboot sale and thought of me - nice thought - cleaned up well and now has it's place amongst my other Naval memories.

Similar items were made from ships timbers by a Plymouth firm S.J. Lethbridge, Coopers , they were on the Barbican.
