no idea what is what here, but this was Brest naval base taken on the 28th of July 1997.

Hi All,

just for interest i took these photos on the 28th of July 1997 of the German U-Boat pens in Brest. Have a close look and you can still see bomb damage.

Out of curiosity, are these being used for anything other than tourist attractions?

I have been told, and also have read the French do still use these freebies the Germans left behind. I was not allowed in and it was still being used by the Navy for what purpose i did not know.

As a matter of interest and another useless fact. They were so massive, it was found to be impossible to demolish them after the war.The exterior shots of the film "Das Boot" were shot outside the Pens at La Rochelle, and the interior pen shots at former German pens at Bergen in Norway. They are still used by the Norwegian Navy for their submarines.... Many regards Steve.
