Hi all,
Whilst searching for something entirely different I just happened across
a couple of interesting old naval books that you can access, for free and read online. I'm sure there must be lots more out there, so I thought it might be an idea to list any we find here.
Personally I do prefer to read "proper hard copy", books, however due to the age of some of these, I'm sure there wouldn't be too many left out there, so this would have to be the next best alternative.
The first one I've found is: "How our Navy is Run: A Description of Life in the King's Fleet", by Archibald S. Hurd.

He is also the author of: "The British Fleet. Is it Sufficient and Efficient"
The introduction to the first book mentioned is by a Rear-Admiral Lord Charles Beresford (1867-1927), who also has his memoirs on line: The Memoirs of Admiral Lord Charles Beresford(1914) at this link :

Cheers,

p.s. Eventually, if we happen to find lots of old navy books on line, we might be able to ask one of the very helpful moderators to list them in some form of order. (Maybe by year, or something?) :)
