I have my Grandfathers Naval records and also have just been helping a friend with her Grandfathers naval history. Both spent time on Depot ships for a few months between ships after WW1 in the early 1920's. As they were a Leading Stoker and a Signalman respectivly, what would they be doing on a Depot ship, probably perminantly moored?.

It is not necessarily the case that they were permanently moored or inactively employed ashore or kicking their heels at anchor in some dockyard. If you have the men’s service record their status is given on this document and if you would like help deciphering the documents send me a copy and I will try and help.

BATSTIGER, you probably know that from 5th along pic of VULCAN. H boats alongside with the `SLUG' Sub R4 trying to come alongside on her one screw - difficult for the old girl.

As for the signalman, whether 'tied up' or at sea, you still require communications, either by flag, or morse, possibll flag in those days...George
