Hi there, here is a photo of Lachlan in the latter part of her career(1970's).She was an Australian-built River class frigate, initially on loan but later purchased by the RNZN.She served as an hydrographic ship from 1949 until 1974,finally being disposed of in1980's
RNZN Photo.

Hello All,
A recent arrival to the site, but I have a nice colour shot of HMNZS Lachlan, as well as some of her Ships Company conducting survey operations that may interest you.

Hi Stu
Welcome to the forum, nice to have another Kiwi onboard ... especially a 'drog !

Any crew member from Oct 1963 remember assisting HMS Cook after she ran aground off Fiji? I was aboard at the time. While Cook was on the slipway in Suva, we were based at Lathala Bay, NZAF base.

My memory of Lachlan was as an accomodation mess / refit barge outboard the frigate Waikato during her refit in 1991.
She had pretty much been completely stripped and was no longer operational / seagoing.
She was sold for scrap I think in 1993 or maybe 1994 and I believe sank under tow, at least that was just the scuttlebut at the time. Officially I really have no idea what happened to her but she was definately gone by late 94.

Exactly as I recall also one big smoko room and toilet. Someone had also painted HMNZS Poo Strainer on her as well.

Hi Bobjudy. I was an ordinary seaman on Lachlan during the later half of 1974 and am looking for info and pics reguarding the grounding at Gisborne. Watching Pirates of the Caribean at worlds end reminded me of when we had to run from side to side to free the ship from the mud. A situation the locals found funny.
