Dudley Marrows joined the RAAF in 1940 and after training in flying boats in England, he was posted to 201 squadrom RAF in Northern Ireland.
After three months, Dudley was very proud to be posted to the RAAF squadron 461 based at Mount Batten.
On the 30th July 1943, whilst flying aircraft prefix U, he attacked and sank the German submarine U-461. For this action he was awarded the DFC.
The artwork below depicts this action and is called "Caught on the surface".

Thanks for the site Bob. Everyone gets old even old soldiers. Many have faded away.
You see an old guy in the street and have no idea what he did in the war.
Here here Sailor..... we owe all these "guys" a debt of gratitude.

Couldn't agree with you more viv.
So tell me why, when a school principal friend of mine in Britain attempted to introduce some commemoration matters into his school, was he savagely attacked by some teachers as being a "warmonger"?

I think it is because the West is losing it's firm resolve, which enabled us to win the world wars. We are now in the hands of socialists and in the grip of political correctness. The end is near. We are losing the peace.
Why I am up at this hour.... !!
In answer to your question Sailor.... Political correctness gone MAD !
Who elected these people to speak and act on our behalf... no one, they assumed the role for themselves. Sadly most folks in the UK just idly stand by and let all this happen. Roll on the revolution...am I allowed to say that ? Patriotism is a dirty word here in the UK so the deeds of our forefathers are swept under the carpet... "glorification" of war is a no no.
I feel for the next generation, they will know nothing of our history and if they do it will be from an extremey biased view..... I have started to go off on one, so better stop before I say something I will regret. The pc police are everywhere !!!

If yours was an isolated view Viv, I would pay it no heed.
But it's not. There are a great many English people who hold your view.
You should go to the Daily Telegraph blog site to read what they are saying.

I listen to a lot of talk radio etc and I know mine is not an isolated view but what can you do when less than half the British population even to bother to vote at a General Election. Even then the elected so called politicians never listen to their constituents views... they just seem to be more pre- occupied with feathering their own nests......
And on that note I had better retire as it is REALLY late !

I did hear that during the last voting for the European elections, in one constituent, less than 15 people voted.
If this is a general trend then no-one can whinge about the European parliament!

Hello everyone!
I grew up during the war and lived in Poole and on the harbour there was, I believe, a Sunderland Squadron(s) based. We all owe those who fought and survived and those especially who died, a huge debt of gratitude.
I have a sneaking suspicion that an ancient Greek philosopher pointed out that freedom is precious andshould be fought for! The trouble is, as members are saying in these pages, that we all know that PC is, and has become, forced upon us by 'the powers that be.' I am strictly NOT PC.... I regard it as a cancer in western society.
The most disturbing thing is that there is not, even amongst the world for God's sake, a proper International Statesman or Woman.... a proper leader in the mould of a Churchill, or Thatcher.... all politicians are only in it for what they can get out of it. And because they never listen to what 'the people' are saying, people cannot be bothered to vote.

It's a catch 22 Ian. If people won't vote ... ..
People get the politicians they deserve.
