I came across this colour plate showing some of the medals awarded for conspicuous gallantry or life-saving at sea and they date from around 1935.

I offer a brief description of each medal.

The Victoria Cross is of course shown in the centre of the plate.

Top left is the Stanhope Gold Medal an interesting medal awarded by the Royal Humane Society for the bravest act of life-saving each year.
It was instituted in memory of Captain C.S.S. Stanhope who died in 1871.

Next to it are the corresponding Humane Society Silver and Bronze medals, awarded each year for saving or attempting to save life from drowning.

Either side of the Victoria Cross are medals of the R.N.L.I. who issue Gold, Silver and Bronze medals always with light-blue ribbons.

The bottom row of medals show from the left the silver medal of the Shipwrecked Fishermen and Mariners Royal Benevolent Society.

The Board of Trade silver medal.

The Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society silver medal.

Finally on the far right a bronze medal awarded by Lloyds.
