Nigel, when I read accounts of WWI, I am appaled at the sensless slaughter and literally get sick of my stomach. The bravery and heroism exhibited by the men of the RGLI, and other units was beyond belief. I could not finish reading the site. I will continue later.

The 1st (Service) Battalion of the RGLI mved to England in May 1917 and was at Bourne Park, near Canterbury,in 202nd Brigade,67th Inf.Div.in Sept.
1917 and went to France, landing at Havre. On 27 Sept. On 2.10.17 it went to 86th Brigade,29 Inf Div..On 27.4.18 after heavy casualties in the Battles ofthe Lys (German Spring Offensive),it went to GHQ Troops where it remained.
No further recruitment; after having lost 330 men dead plus as many wounded-the unit virtually ceased to exist!
