Good afternoon everyone,
My uncle is really interested in building scale models and he just finished up a flawless Bluenose. He's interested in the HMS Hector. I've scoured the internet and local shops to find blueprints for the Hector but I can't find any. I've been in contact with the Royal Navy and haven't had any luck, although they assure me that I could have a rewarding career if I signed up. Do any of you have, have access to or know anybody that might know somebody who knows somebody with the prints? I would appreciate any and all assistance. Cheers!

If you know the company who built her, try there, or whatever they may be called now.
If they don't exist now at all, try the local 'ship museum' or county/city archives. The Glasgow ship museum has a vast array of all sorts. Others may be likewise.
Try the site:- http://www.clydesite.co.uk/clydebuilt/viewship.asp?id=19169
for starters.

I'm afraid this is all I could find about HMS Hector.

Or is this the HMS HECTOR (Broadside Ironclad 1862 built by Robert Napier Govan, Yard No 104) that SaveTheWails seeks blueprints for? If so not many Napier record have survived and I know, for example, that Glasgow University Archive Services, who hold some of this companies records, does not have the blueprint for Yard No. 104.
HMS HECTOR's sister ship was named HMS VALIANT, built by Westwood & Bailiie of Millwall. When that company went bankrupt construction was transferred to the Thames Iron Works. If you have no luck finding blueprints for HECTOR, which I have some doubt over, you may have better luck with VALIANT.

Thanks for all your help everyone. Yeah, I've been looking for the Hector Blueprints for some time now. The Glasgow University Archives have some records, but nothing on the Hector. I know the National Archives of Scotland have records from Scott's Shipbuilders so I've e-mailed them with more specifics. As for which Hector I am looking for, I would take any. I'd say it's the one that launched in the 1920s, only because my uncle finished the Bluenose, which launched in 1926. If anyone is in Scotland and happens to be poking around archives, I'd love it if they kept me in mind :D. Sometimes it's tough being a Canadian...but most of the time it works out just fine.
Thanks again!

You might also try the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, they have one of the most comprehensive archives of ship plans in the world. You will find them easily, net address is www.nmm.ac.uk phone number +44 208 858 4422 fax +44 208 312 6632. If you go to their web site i am sure it will tell you where to address your email enquiry.
