The Green collection has her as HMS Vengeance, were the photos taken prior to her transfer?

Must have been Jim as she was transferred to the RAN on 13th November 1952.

The photo's were taken when she arrived in Sydney to be transferred to the RAN on loan for 2 years until HMAS Melbourne was commissioned.

She called at various ports on her way out there hence the dates, she left in November 1952 and arrived Sydney March 1953.

Mystery solved, many thanks. This begs another question, should the pic be on the RAN thread? :)

I dont understand the problem as correct me if I am wrong the ship was transferred to the RAN in November 1952 and these pictures were taken during March 1953?

That makes her HMAS Vengeance surely?

Terry, technically no!

She left England in Nov 52 as Hms Vengeance, stopping off at various ports along the way Arriving in Sydney March 53 as Hms Vengeance. Once in Australia she was officially commissioned as Hmas Vengeance, the exact date I don't know.

Alan

All I can say is that in two different sources I have read that she was transferred to the RAN on 13th November 1952. By all means move it to the RN section if you think that is wrong.

In fact it was me who moved Bruces post here as it had been posted as a photogallery. I was in two minds whether or not to put it in the RAN or the RN section. I looked up the date of transfer and put it here.

I can see what you are saying regarding the later commish date so please move it to the RN section if you think it appropriate.

Ahem! This is what I was trying to say in post#3 before Alan temporarily recommissioned her back into the RN for another 3 months or so!! :D

Can anyone tell me if any of HMAS Vengeance crew were awarded the Korean UN medal for that trip up top to pick up 77 Sqn. in Oct. 1954?

Cheers

My father was on this trip to Japan to bring back 77 squadron.
He was doing his national service at the time, when he enquired about service medals he was told that they had to be in a warzone for 28 days to qualify and Vengeance was only in for 9 days.
