I'm trying to find any photographs or records of my grandfather, Bernard Bailey, in service. He was a petty officer and operated ASDIC and communications, and was serving on HMS Triton when she fired on and sank HMS Oxeley in 1939.

After HMS Triton was lost he transferred to HMS Thunderbolt (formerly Thetis) however, he was taken ill and was not on board when she was sunk.

I am aware he also served on other submarines during the war, and spent some time at Rossyth. I do also remember him talking about HMS Dolphin when I was young and regularly wearing his HMS Dolphin tie.

I would be incredibly grateful for any advice you may be able to offer, I would really love to be able to locate any images or records of him in service.
Thanks

Martin

Hi, I don't know if I can help but my grandfather was on Triton when she when she was lost, my brother has a photograph of her in dock with all ships company. I can identify my grandfather on deck, not sure on dates though.

Good of you to offer Webby - the problem is that Martin has not visited the forum since he posted his original cry for help. Still one hopes that he will one day and then will see your kind offer...
