Hello folks,
I am new to these forums but have scanned through a number of times in the past. The readings are excellent but I especially enjoy the photographs. I build model ships (WW 2, Commonwealth only) and have been working on HMNZS ACHILLES 1945 using some photos I've found on the internet. I have tried to find a decent view of her bridge at that time but have had no luck. It seems the range finders were removed but I wondered what else was changed.
Here is what my meagre skills have produced so far in the hopes that someone can help me finish this project which I started 6 years ago while instructing at Canadian Forces Base Borden....

Hi Tim,
Great looking model you've got going there of HMNZS Achilles 1945. Looks like you've put a lot of detailed painstaking work into it. Well done.
Also welcome to the forum, I'm sure you'll have more welcomes (and hopefully help with the information you're seeking), if you post on the "new members" thread (near the top of the first page, general section), as a lot of people check there, whereas only a few check here. I'm sure the other posters would love you to share your stories and pictures with them.
Looking forward to seeing more of your posts, and eventually your finished ship. :)

Regards,
Bee

Thank you Chris,
I am hoping to finish it soon, I haven't had any luck getting a picture of the bridge, so I am cobbling things together from other ships of the class at the time (i.e. HMNZS LEANDER). Do you happen to have any pictures of the bridge, or of people on the bridge from his time aboard?

I might be able to track something down for you.
the only pic of my dad's from the achilles was of him stood with some ABs as they swabbed the deck-presumably near the focsle as there are two 6 inch turrets behind tem

there used to be a website about the achilles in RNZN days including the bridge. I'll see what I can do.

I have just come across this photo of Leander with the bridge in view.

I hope this helps you to finish your fine model !

Thank you Brian,
I am just about finished just trying to find the time to complete the rigging of the model but since the birth of my 2nd daughter and all of the exciting things going on at the base time is a comodity I have run short on. I am hoping to finish it up by our local model show and contest on September 18th though. I will post pictures when I can.
