My Dad was photographer on HMS Carthage in WW2 and I came across this photo amongst his papers and other photos. I think one person is De Gaulle but does anyone know who the others are and what occasion it might be, please?
Thanks

Safe to say the others are not 'Brits'. The 4 ringer in whites has a moustache and the 3 ringer has badges on his lapels. Could be a French contingent on an RN ship. Rob T

You've got me stumped Primmy. I can't think where the photo may have been taken. Carthage, as I'm sure you know, was an armed mechant cruiser that seems to have spent much of the war in the Eastern Fleet. I know that she was often employed on convoy duties between Freetown and Durban, and was active in the Indian Ocean. I can't think why the French would be photographed though. Apart from French North Africa I can think of no reason for them to be in that part of the world. What an enigma!
