hey guys i was wondering what was the royal navy tonnage at the outbreak of WW2, and if possible the tonnage of all the other major naval powers.

I've seen this information somewhere, but I remember that its quite hard to get a very accurate figure for the RN, as it was actively requistioning into service various civilian vessels prior to the actual declaration of war. Also some were debating at what stage does a vessel under construction or under trial actually come into play.

Agree with you Andy. It's a case of 'moving goalposts', but there must be an acceptable figure somewhere.
