HM (NSW) TB "Avernus"

Built by Atlas Engineering company of Pyrmont, completed March 1878 sold 1902 abandoned on the shores ofRushcutters Bay before finally beig sunk for reclamation of land at Glebe in the 1940's.

So she belonged to New South Wales then? Seeing as there wasn't an Australian navy then as you rightly point out.

Did she see service? Boer war perhaps?

I'm sorry I can't answer your question about the Avernus Herk, I came across the article some time ago.
I have here a bit of Oz, perhaps you can enlighten us Pommies, looks like some sort of Admirals yacht.

Batstigers Admirals Yacht

This was originally the a German motor launch “Komet”. She was captured by John Patons Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force off New Guinea in October 1914 with all her crew. She became HMAS Una during WWI & the Akuna pilot vessel after the war. I believe she went to the breakers in 1954/55

How interesting.

The New Guinea campaign was the first Allied success of WW1.

(We sure had to wait some time for the next one!!)
