My grandfather William Henry Watts J 5136 served aboard HMS Blenheim between 11th Dec 1919 and 31st December 1920.

I would like to know anything about the ships service and crew during 1920.

HMS Blenheim was a 1st class cruiser, built by the Thames Iron Works, Blackwall in 1890. She was converted to a depot ship in 1907 and was sold to Wards at Pembroke Dock for scrapping in 1926.
The first photograph shows her as she was built and the second photograph, at Malta, is of her after conversion to a depot ship. In that photograph she has additional deckhouses by the aft mast.

Hello from Jonathan Kremner. I am looking for a list of the captains (and senior officers) who commanded the Blake class armoured cruiser HMS Blenheim.

I am given to understand that my great grandfather captained the Blenheim. (My grandfather was even named after the ship) ... but the names I commonly see on the internet are not connecting and I have not dates to go on.

If anyone could help me piece together a chronology of the captains and senior officers of this ship - and unravel the mystery - I would much appreciate it. Thanks for any and all input from Jonathan Kremner

Hello!
Like you, I am also seeking info regarding the HMS Blenheim. My interest may well be several years earlier than your though (???)

Have you been able to garner any facts regarding the crew, the captain and missions? I am especially interested in identifying who the officers were and when they served.

Any info you could share with me would be much appreciated.
Best regards from Jonathan Kremner & good luck with your reasearch

I am hoping someone can direct me to a person or organization that can confirm that Edward Samuel Braine was the designer of the Blake Class ship HMS Blenheim. Edward is the great, great, great grandfather of my wife and I am writing a genealogical research paper on Edward and need to confirm this fact and to explore it further. Edward emmigrated to Canada in the 1890's and as a mechanical engineer, became involved in the railway industry in Nova Scotia. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My grandfather, Pte Charles Edwards, Royal Marine Light Infantry served on board HMS Blenheim during the period 24 Nov 1906 until 13 Aug 1907. I wonder if someone knows where this voyage had taken him, where had the ship been during that period? Trying to piece together my grandfathers time at sea, I would appreciate any help.

Cheers Roy

Another great launching article Dave.

I have much better pictures of her than this one but they are all from her later in life rather than just after the time of launch like this one.

These are great pictures that you are adding to these posts, Terry and I am extremely grateful for your time. It certainly adds so much more to the reports that I am posting

No trouble my friend. I am trying to find pictures as near to as possible the launching date, rather than just select the best quality example I have which is often from a much later period.

Thanks.

I think that it is right to get the photos as close to the launching as possible. We all know how much a warship can be altered throughout it's life.

Ldng Seaman George Bryon served on HMS Blenheim twice

1920 June 1. Posted to HMS Blenheim (Speedy). Until 13 April 1921.

1921 April 14. Posted to HMS Undaunted until 26 April 1921.

1921 April 27. Posted to HMS Victory until 14 July 1921.

1921 July 15. Posted to HMS Blenheim (Somme) until 11 September 1921.

Can someone clarify where he was?

After this he was posted on September 12 1921 to HMS Diligence (Somme) until 9 November 1923. Diligence is also shown as (Sirdar) and (Wolsley) during this period. Not sure of all the names as they are not clear on my copy of his papers from AMD97

Novice here but looking after daughter and new grandson while his dad is in the Gulf with RN
amazing the disruption a 4 week old can cause.
