When N Korea invaded S Korea, US Forces were there on observation duties at the start yet N Korea attacked a US Navy ship in port and killed a few of the crew, what was the name of that ship and was there any retaliation to the attack by the US Government?

Dave,

I have wrote a Noted Historian on the Korean War and this was his response:

Dear Mr. Whitley: I know of no U.S. Navy ship at either Inchon or Pusan when the North Koreans attacked on June 25, 1950. Roy E. Appleman, in South to the Naktong, North to the Yalu, the official U.S. Army history of the first months of the war, reports (page 39) that a Norwegian fertilizer ship, the Reinholt, was at Inchon, and another freighter (nationality not specified) the Pioneer Dale was at Pusan. Both carried American and other foreign nationals back to Japan. At the same time, other Americans and foreigners were evacuated by air from Kimpo and Suwon airfields. I hope this answers your questions. Sincerely yours, Bevin Alexander.

Hope this answer your question.

Regards
Charles
