Hello Folks
My dad joined the RN as a boy on Ganges aged 15years and 1 month in 1935. He had an exemplary naval career until he fell out with the RN about what was meant as A1 fit. He wanted to go back on active duty after injury & recovery but the RN said he was for a desk job (he was never one for paperwork!).
He was badly injured when Coventry was bombed in Sept 42.
I have a copy of his naval history etc so can do 'cross referencing' with anyone who may have known him.
He would never tell us of his navy days - too many of his friends were lost and he felt that he should have gone with them.
I am therefore a complete Naval dummy and confused by a lot of his records and 'land based ships' (which confused me when I read his letters that he'd sent to my mum during the 'courting by correspondence' that they had and he often referred to nights on the town - whereas I was imagining him at sea !) and also the fact that after the Coventry bombing his naval record continued unabated whilst he was actually laid up in hospital in Durban (it says he was on Atlantis, Kongoni, Pembroke etc ????).
