My grandfather, Sydney Harold Boston-Marsh b.1901, served his Royal Naval career on cruisers.

Starting as a Boy 2nd class 8th August 1917 until 24th January 1918, he progressed to Boy 1st class from 25th January 1918 until 6th February 1918 whilst at HMS Ganges.

The ships he served on after that are as follows:

HMS Princess Royal - 7th February 1918 until 15th May 1919.
HMS Hawkins - 24th July 1919 until 23rd July 1920 and 24th July 1920 until 1921.
He then went back to barracks at HMS Pembroke from 14th January 1921 until 24th March 1921 and 15th April 1921 until 4th June 1921. Again from 21st November 1921 until 2nd January 1923 when he enlisted aboard:
HMS Constance - 3rd January 1923 until 18th July 1926.
During this time he was lent to HMS Malabar the naval base at Bermuda for almost two months (2nd October 1925 until 23rd November 1925).
HMS Colombo - 19th July 1926 until 28th December 1927.
Back to barracks HMS Pembroke 29th December 1927 until 25th March 1929.
HMS Sussex - 24th October 1929 until 10th January 1930.
HMS Caledon - 11th January 1930 until 16th August 1930.
Back to barracks at HMS Pembroke from 17th August 1930 until 13th April 1931.
HMS Valiant - 14th April 1931 until 8th May 1932.
HMS Ceres - 9th May 1932 until 27th November 1933.
HMS Cardiff (Ceres) - 28th November 1933 until 25th June 1934.
He progressed from Stoker to 1st Class Stoker Petty Officer & Engineers Writer.

Unfortunately, whilst on leave from HMS Ceres on the 24th June 1934 the motorcycle he was riding collided with a motor car just a short distance from his home and he died of his injuries the next day, 25th June 1934.
He left a wife and 3 year old son (my father).
