This is Charles Lightoller's story. The exploits are well documented elsewhere.


Highlights:


Started on sailing ships. Shipwrecked several times.
Tried to get to the Klondike.
Cowboy
Hobo riding the rails across Canada
Cattlemen on boat back.
Joined White Star Line - ty
The only officer to survive the Titanic
In WW1 won DSC and Bar. Rammed a U-Boat twice
In WWII spied for the Admiralty off the Northern Shores
Brought back 130 soldiers from Dunkirk in his own boat

What a fantastic read! I dived in at WW1 and the Dover Patrol. Lightoller really knew how to handle a destroyer, and was equally handy with pen and ink. Recommended reading for everyone.
