Hi,
I am doing research on the HMD Lichen (Drifter) but cant seem to find much at all on it,i especially would like a Pic of this vessel.
Is there anyone at all out there who may by chance know of anything at all!!
The only info i have at hand thus far is.

Vessel Registered at Gt.Yarmouth in 1920

Norfolk, East Anglia, England, UK

Lichen
40hp screw steamer 1911 YH10 Year Registered and official Number which may help??
132331 99,38 Govan
1911 steel
86'4",18'5",8'8" Westmacott Ltd., Battery Road, Gt.Yarmouth.
Manager: Reginald J. Westmacott, The White House, North Drive, Gt.Yarmouth

Apparently this ship was in a collision with another ship in 1918 and all crew were lost.
Any help at all on this would be gratefuuly accepted.

Tony

I have a little info on a drifter called Lichen which may or may not be the same one. I also do not guarantee the info is totally accurate as it is second hand.

Built in Govan 1911. Registered GT Yarmouth YH. 728

Acquired by RN 1914 as a patrol vessel and armed with a 3 pdr.

Was involved in a collision with another ship 3/09/18 with the loss of 4 men one of whom was Signal Boy called Timothy O'Leary and is buried in South Shields.

Lichen survived the war and was returned to her owners in 1919. In 1932 she transferred to new owners in Peterhead. She was again taken over by the RN in 1939 for minesweeping, survived WW2 and returned to owners in 1946.

I hope this info is of use.

Regards...John

All I can find about the Lichen backs up Johns information.
In Ian Allans " Warships of World War 11 " it lists FY.940. Lichen (D) 99 tons launched 1911. Requisitioned 11/39. M/S; returned 1945.
