I have a copy of my late grandfathers' Navy Service records from World War II, and would like to know a little bit about the ships he served on, or any information on my grandfathers' service in the War.
Hi name was Thomas Alfred Mazzie (1923-1997) from Cardiff (port division - Devonport - service no. JX396655).
The ships he served on were as follows:-
Glendower (rating - Ord Sea) 14 Dec 1942 - 8 Mar 1943;
Drake (Ord Sea) 9 Mar 1943 - 9 Apr 1943;
Quebec (Ord Sea) 10 Apr 1943 - 31 Aug 1943;
Copra (Ord Sea) 15 Sep 1943 - 13 Dec 1943;
Copra (A.B.) 14 Dec - 30 Nov 1945;
Drake (A.B.) 1 Dec 1945 - 1 Dec 1945;
Dundonald (A.B.) 2 Dec 1945 - 10 May 1946.
I know that the Drake was an exam ship.
The Dundonald also has another name which looks like the writing is in Russian.
Also, we were told that my grandfather was one of the first Naval Commando's. His service records does not state this, but when my grandfather died, we found a list of people's addresses who were ex-Naval Commando's, and he is listed. Why would this not be stated on his service records?
