Trying to find out about my Grandfather and his army service.

David L. May all I know about his army connection is a photo I have of him in uniform dated on the back as 14 Jul 1945 showing him in battledress with London Scottish Titles, A round badge immediately below which might be a combined ops badge then a horizontal badge comprising two thick dark horizontal stripes separated by a thin one of lighter colour then a light coloured rectangle with a thistle on then a set of corporals chevrons.

Anyone who can shed some light on the badges, the London Scottish or Knew or has a relative who knew him would be great.

He was a boxer so if any details or photos of inter Regiment bouts at this time I would also be interested.

The 1st battalion of the London Scottish were part of 168 Brigade of 56th London Infantry Division -a last addition to the 8th Army in Nth Africa.
Fought throughout the entire Italian Campaign 1943/45.
There was a 2nd Battalion raised in Sept.44 but remained in the UK.
Hope this is of some help to you.

Seems I was wrong about the 2nd Batt.London Scottish;it was raised in Sept
1939 in 141 brigade of the 47th London Infantry Division ie. 47th was 1st and 56th was 2nd- both London Divisions. The 47th was kept in the UK and the badge directly under the London Scottish shoulder titles; is I think,
the insignia of the South Eastern Command
