I am looking for any info on my grandad Terry Furnell. I think he was a cook but dont know any years. From what ive found he served on HMS King Arthur Kingsmoor Camp the when on to HMS Ranpura but thats all i know.We have found some old photos but not sure he served on these ships they are HMS Triumph and HMS Chaplet with the date 1951. Thanks

Tracey, welcome to the forum.

Kingsmoor camp, was the new entry training camp in Skegness, Lincolnshire named Hms Royal Arthur...not king arthur.

Hms Ranpura can be found on this site...type 'ranpura' into the search
at the top of the page.

If you also do a search for ' service documents' you will find info on how to obtain your grandfathers records from the M.O.D they may charge a fee.

If you do get the records be sure to post a copy of them onto the forum and we have loads of people with the knowledge to help you decipher them.

I suspect HMS King Arthur, should be Royal Arthur , Kingsmoor, near Corsham Wilts was where a Senior rates leadership course was run, he was I expect part of the ships company.

This is a pic.of H.M.S.Royal Arthur,Corsham,Wiltshire Where I did my initial training and kitting out for six weeks in 1948/It later became a petty Officers training site. The earlier Royal Arthur was in Skegness.
