Been to the Channel Islands only twice. First time, in 1982, onboard HMS BICKINGTON (to Alderney.) Last time - last year for my 20th wedding Anniversary, (to Guernsey.) Loved the Islands !! Would happily re-visit tomorrow if I could. So peaceful - (Apart from the one-o'clock gun firing from the castle in Guernsey):D

Introducing the Channel Islands revives memories for me. I married in April1957 and spent a week's honeymoon on Jersey before sailing off into the wide blue yonder 6 weeks later on Lagos for 9 months in the Med. We have now celebrated 51 years together. On our wedding day after a lunch reception in Southend, we trained to London, had a meal in the 'Bacon & Eggs' section of the Trafalgar Square Lyons Corner House, got a coach from Victoria Station to Heathrow and flew to Jersey in an Elizabethan. firstly may i congratulate you on being married for so long , and as Guernsey has the sort of rivalry with Jersey that England has with Australia i think that's all the congratulations that i should extend at the moment

HI Nigel. We would have flown to Guernsey in 1957 if there had been a road long enough to land on and small boats are not the place for honeymooners! Interestingly enough, I know of 2 families from Guernsey living in our neck of the woods. Rob T
