Visiting HMAS Parramatta in the Persian Gulf today, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd promised 'a stonger Navy,' not smaller, but also not 'the same Navy.'
The ABC TV News item tonight contains some interpretation of his comments from a Defence commentator. To me it sounded like an assurance that the two large Amphibious Command ships and three AWD's ordered by the previous government would proceed - maybe more, as there is already a study being launched for the next generation of subs.
News reporter says it is the second time this year Rudd has promised more for the Navy.
