View Full Version : Admiral Chabanenko
Early on Saturday (6th) morning at 0200 the Admiral Chabanenko became the first Russian warship to transit the Panama Canal since WW2. After completing exercises with the Venezualan navy she passed from the Atlantic to the Pacific in the dark and is now anchored at the naval base at Rodman. She is expected to be there for five days for R&R and no doubt to show the flag! As her home port is Murmansk it will be interesting to see whether she keeps going west or returns back through the canal.

Maybe she can meet up with daa Rooshunnz 1 carrier now coming out of the Murmansk area to the Med. Heck it would DOUBLE her escort force! OTOH, unfortunately, at least on paper their CV has far more offensive firepower than all 3 of the RN's CVLs. Come to think of it, with the Harriers now "retired"...the 2 operational RN CVLs can do what??? DFO
couple of pics of her arriving in Havana on the 19th Dec. Pics from tiscali news and BBC news websites

Certainly an impressive destroyer from the point of view of her armourment - if not her stealth...

This is the current 'Duty Showship'. Adm Chabanenko was the Russian contribution to Plymouth Navy Days in 2006. If high profile is called for then it is usually this ship or her sister Adm Levchenko that is used.

I am not sure I understand "if not stealth" ?

I just meant that unlike other warships in use today - she does not appear to have a stealth like appearance!
