Hi

My father served on HMS Cambrian, during the 60's until about 1967. I was christened on board in around 1964 or 1965, at a service with a number of other crew members' children. I was told that our names would be inscribed inside the ship's bell - can anyone confirm this? If true I would be interested to know where the bell went - I have read that the ship was scrapped in 1971.

Hoping one of you good people can help, maybe I will even meet someone who served with my father...

There was a tradition of inscribing names of children inside the rim of ship's bells after christening altho not all ships followed this. Children christened aboard HMS Belfast were certainly imortalised this way but years of polishing has dimmed their memory! Bells were usually returned to a trophy store but not always, sometimes they were given to the last commanding officer, when HMS Urchin was finally scrapped the bell was given to my father and is now in my posession, see picture in a earlier post ref Urchin..
Good luck with your search

I will investigate with a good friend from the IWM who might have an "in" with the keeper of the RN trophy store. Good luck
