Hi I'm not quite sure what to do, I am trying to find if there are any other relatives of the crew of HMS Vivacious around? my father was a Petty Oficer during the war, couldn't get him to talk about it much so don't have a lot of info, anyone help?

G'Day Securesmile, and welcome!

Just go and look through the threads, that what I did, chances are you'll find someone or something that will grab your interest! For a start, try the Royal Navy section and go from there!

Securesmile,
Welcome to the forum, Hms Vivacious has a soft spot in my heart as it was the ship that brought my late father-in-law home from Dunkirk during the war.

He was at that time serving with the Durham Light Infantry, as they reached the beach he noticed 2 ships that were boarding troops, Hms Vivacious and her sister ship Hms Vidette.... the Vidette was leaning heavily and Jim couldn't swim and was nervous about getting onto her, so he chose instead to make his way toward the Vivacious along ropes in the water....he arrived back in England and whilst on leave found out that his Brother was serving onboard Hms Vidette and he had missed him by chosing to board Vivacious.. fortunately his brother also survived the war and so they met up again.

Here's one of my photo's of her...and if you look in the ships badges thread her badge is posted on there too.

Hope you have luck in tracing people..

Regards
Alan

Great photo Alan.
Not sure about the identity of the ships in these photos, but some V class destroyers amongst them and a lot of Pongos

My grandfather was navigator on Vivacious during the russian convoys. Not sure when he joined the ship. I know he was on corvettes & atlantic convoys during Dunkerque. but i know he was on Vivacious during the D day landings.

Not wure if he transfered ship soon after as he did end up in Singapore at the Jap surrender, but i donlt think Vivacious was there?

I am trying to find out more. so will keep you updated. His name was Peter Murdock. retired a Lieutenant-Commander i think.

Hullo--have just found this site and seen your message-- my father was a chief petty officer on Vivacious at some point during the last war. He was Horace " Tommy" Trott. He also served on Foam, Zetland and Dauntless.

HMS Vortigen and Viscount...

Presume the photograph of HMS VISCOUNT at Post 6 shows her on her return to port after ramming and sinking the VIIC Type U-Boat U-661 in the North Atlantic on 15 October 1942. U-661, which had been operating as part of Wolfpack Wotan from the 12 October 1942, was lost with all hands.
