This photo is one that probably can be identified by those who know their German naval guns. Anyone know the ship or class?

The ship in question is either the Scharnhorst or the Gneisenau. As you said, the guns are the give away as is the direction finder and crane behind it (adjacent to the funnel, only found on these two German ships in WWII).

Hello,

The ship is for sure Gneisenau.
The lower part of HA director support shape and crane shape is characteristic for Gneisenau.
BTW. The pic was made in port and the back ground was retouched.

Bingo Gents!! Looks like the aft-most twin 5.9 inch(150 mm) mount,starboard side looking forward.
